Skiing Exercises

In every type of sports, strength is must for the players. In downhill skiing also it is true. Here you will know why and when you need to exercise, before moving onto the five essential elements of ski-specific exercising.
An expert skier should have a powerful body, from strong ankles to strong shoulders. Doing good skiing also depends partly on the practice, and partly to the body awareness and balance that strength training provides. The expert skier with a physically strong body instinctively cues every part of his or her body.

Why ski exercises:

It is true that strong muscles improve every skier's performance. Exercise in this sport is the thing by which you may provide the boost you need to reach the next level.
Few sports are physically demanding: downhill skiing, especially skiing on moguls etc. The lack of physical fitness may increase the chances of injuries like joint related injuries, and the best way to protect joints is by building muscle.

For the knee and ankle joints, you may do the exercises of upper leg muscles, including the quads and hamstrings. For the hip joints, the hip flexors, glutes, abdominals, groin, and lower back muscles exercises are recommended.

Freestyle Skiing

Freestyle skiing began in the 1930s, when Norwegian skiers began performing during alpine and cross-country training. Later, some non-competitive professional skiing exhibitions in the United States featured performances of freestyle skiing. Aerial skiing was developed in about 1950 by Stein Eriksen who was an Olympic gold medalist. After that, organized freestyle skiing started in the mogul fields, and it allowed skiers to show off with tricks, jumps and incredible turning abilities. In 1971 Heavenly Valley, dick California hosted a mogul competition, which is the most challenging mogul runs in the country. With the time as the sport quickly evolved, some hot-shot mogul skiers like John Clendenin, Scott Brooksbank, Bill O'Leary and "Airborne" Eddie Ferguson gave rise to the sport.  In that year, two competing freestyle organizations have been established, Professional Freestyle Associates (PFA) run by Curtis Oberhansly and the International Freestyle Skiers Association (IFSA) run by Bernie Weichsel.

Under PFA and IFSA, the world's best freestyle skiers competed for prize money basically in three disciplines - moguls, aerials and ballet in competitions in the United States, Canada and Europe.

Hard Skis:

Over the hills to the higher jagged peaks, then back down the ground, this sport of skiing is very popular. It has been noted that there is a great joy for the skiers who head to ski resorts with their hard skis during the winter. They love the thrill and fun that this sport brings.

Different Types of Skiing:

Skiing is a sport which uses skis as its primary equipment. There are two general categories of skiing. These are Nordic skiing and Alpine skiing, and several other ski disciplines. For the Nordic skiing type, the ski bindings are attached at the toes of the ski boots. On the other hand for alpine skiing, the ski bindings are attached both at the toe and the heel of boots.

The Disciplines

There are different skiing disciplines as: cross-country, downhill, backcountry, freestyle, telemark, and adaptive skiing.

The Use of Hard Skis

Skiing can be hard and tough and so it needs hard skis. The very first hard ski was very heavy and sturdy. But now the developers have a new look that is much lighter than the first ones that were made. Still they function pretty well and their performance great. The race quality, control, stability, and gliding capacity of these skis is good for the skater who wants some upgrades to the current skiing setup.

The Durable Skis

It should be able to tolerate the hard knocks, and the threats of the long jump. So the skis should be versatile enough that can take in the impact from landing and the bomber durability.
